Our ambassadors are your neighbours
Living With Water Ambassadors are local volunteers from across Hull and the East Riding who give their time to help communities understand flood risk and take practical steps to build resilience.
They're not flood engineers or policy experts, they're residents with lived experience of what flooding means for people in this part of the world, and a genuine commitment to helping their neighbours feel better prepared.
What our ambassadors do
To help build a positive relationship with the communities we work in, we work with a team of Hull and East Yorkshire (HEY) volunteers to act as our Living With Water ambassadors.
You might have encountered one of them at a community event, a summer playday or a neighbourhood gathering. They answer questions, share advice and start conversations about flooding in a way that feels approachable.
Beyond events, ambassadors have also taken part in wider engagement activities. Past projects have included:
- Knowledge-sharing sessions with students at the University of Hull
- Attending Virtual Horizons theatre performances to discuss flood resilience with audiences in a more formal setting
It's this variety that makes the ambassador role distinctive – it's as much about conversation and community connection as it is about sharing facts and figures.
Could you be a Living With Water Ambassador?
If you live in Hull or the East Riding, care about your community's resilience, and want to help your neighbours feel better prepared for flooding, we'd love to hear from you.
There's no requirement to be a flood expert. What matters is local knowledge, genuine community connection, and a willingness to give a little of your time to something that makes a real difference. Please note that you must be signed up as a HEY Volunteer first.
