How to check if you’re at risk of flooding

Be flood aware logo

The flood warning service can tell you if you’re at risk of flooding in England.

You can find out if you’re:

  • At immediate risk of flooding - check current flood warnings and river and sea levels
  • At risk of flooding in the next 5 days
  • In an area that’s likely to flood in the future - check your long-term risk of flooding and view your area’s flood maps.
Check where water could get into your home

Check where water could get into your home

Flood water will exploit the tiniest gaps in your home. Think about gaps under doors, air vents and even cracks in your brickwork.

Flood water will also back up water pipes and out of any plumbed-in appliances such as your washing machine and your toilet.

Find out how you can prevent water from entering your home with our resistance and resilience advice.

Check your insurance

Check your insurance

Check your insurance to make sure you are covered in the event of a flood? You will need building and contents insurance to cover damage to your home and valuable possessions. Contact your insurer to check if you’re not sure.
